Dogfish Head Craft Brewery

M. Davis has developed a longstanding relationship with Dogfish Head Craft Brewery. Because their production line could not keep up with their rapid sales growth, they contacted M. Davis to help with expansion of their existing facility. We provided them with schematics, drawings and new automation. As Dogfish kept growing, we continued to provide solutions for production with control panels, electrical cabinets and electrical installations, mechanical piping, and processes, including a clean-in-place (CIP) system.

Project Scope
Design, fabricate and install an automated clean-in-place (CIP) system that provided cleaning and sanitation brewery tanks. Each tank was controlled by its own PLC but needed to allow for growth and sharing of plant utilities, and the CIP needed to be fully automatic and formula driven.

Project Details
The CIP consisted of five main areas, all comprising high purity piping installation. The CIP project and system was designed in Germany; M. Davis brought the equipment from overseas, assembled all components and installed the equipment. Quality control was paramount as was completion being held to zero wasted man-hours and budget. This project was completed with minimal disruption to the brewing process and daily operational activities. The project included:

  • Pulling over eight miles of cable and terminating 287 devices without a single crossed wire or error
  • More than three miles of metric tubing and hundreds of fittings from Germany
