MDavis
completed a major powerhouse upgrade project that required the installation
of two 120,000 pound boilers and all associated piping. Before any
men or equipment were moved on site, a site survey was performed
to calculate the exact location of a 650 Ton Hydraulic Crane that
would be used to set the boilers. With foundation construction under
way and the location of a tank and pipe rack in the vicinity, this
was a major task.
Work
began on the installation of the steam piping which had to meet
the ANSI B31.1 power piping standards. When the day finally came
to lift the boilers in place, the up front engineering certainly
paid off. Our shop had fabricated a spreader beam that compensated
for the boiler's center of gravity. The boilers were lifted into
place along with the economizers without a hitch.
