Uncategorized

M. Davis & Sons, a 5th generation woman-owned industrial construction company in Wilmington, DE, has promoted Christina MacMillan to Vice President of Strategic Development.

A long-term manager of M. Davis, Christina started with the accounting department in 1998, holding the title of Controller. In 2016 she took on the role of Business Development Manager, and has since spearheaded Business Development, Sales, and Marketing initiatives for M. Davis, making strides in the company’s digital marketing presence. Christina’s new role as Vice President of Strategic Development will make her the first female non-family member of the M. Davis Executive Committee.

Responsibilities will include working in tandem with leaders in project management and operations to ensure strategic business plans are successfully executed in the workplace. She will investigate value propositions associated with product or corporate acquisitions, introduce new products or services to markets, and expand into new markets. It will be her responsibility to take advantage of the company’s core competencies and define objectives to gain market share and maximize profitability, and to execute plans to make those objectives achievable.

“Christina is an accomplished business professional who has been an enthusiastic and dependable contributor on my management team for many years,” said Peggy Del Fabbro, CEO. “Her dedication to M. Davis is commendable.  She brings an accounting mindset to help our organization analyze opportunities and contribute to the strategic planning for future growth.”

A resident of Newark, DE, Christina earned her BS in Business Administration and MBA from Goldey-Beacom College. She completed the Wharton Strategy and Management for Competitive Advantage Certificate program in 2020 and is a fellow of the Leadership Delaware (LDI) Class of 2016, a 10-month program that mentors young Delawareans to excel as leaders in community, non-profit, political, and professional roles.

“I had steel-toed boots when I was very young,” Peggy Del Fabbro said about her early exposure to M. Davis & Sons Inc., one of the leading industrial and construction contractors in Delaware, where she has been CEO for over a decade.

Del Fabbro was born and raised in Wilmington, attending Brandywine High School and graduating from the University of Delaware with a degree in business. “M. Davis has been in my family for five generations. I grew up hearing all of the stories. My dad would take me out to job sites as a kid. It’s been part of my entire life.”

As a kid, spending time with her father at the paper mills where M. Davis worked projects gave Del Fabbro a unique perspective. “A lot of people really don’t see how things are actually made. It’s incredible to see water and either pulp from a tree or cotton rags becoming paper. And then seeing things like cups being made at Sweetheart Cup in Baltimore from the flat materials in the press.”

But Del Fabbro wanted to be a veterinarian, with her strong love of animals since she was a child. “High school chemistry defeated me, so I was lucky to have a strength in accounting, which I enjoyed and was exposed to in our business.”

A WBE Shares Her Keys to Success – Get Engaged, Be Prepared, and Pay it Forward

Uncategorized, Peggy Del Fabbro, WBENC- Women's Business Enterprise

From the outside, it may seem like a chance encounter or coincidence. Peggy Del Fabbro, CEO of industrial construction firm M. Davis & Sons, Inc., sat down at a table during a meeting at the 2017 WBENC Summit & Salute and one of the first people she meets says, “Hi, I’m Marsha from Diageo. I wanted to meet you.”

It was Marsha McIntosh, then Director of Supplier Diversity for Diageo, an international producer of spirits and beer. Diageo North America had just launched a formal Supplier Diversity program in 2015, and networking events, including WBENC conferences, continue to be a key driver in the company’s effort to build a more sustainable supply chain. At the time, Marsha was looking for a women-owned business in construction to help with a big opportunity in Baltimore. A few phone calls and emails later, Peggy had her staff onsite in less than four days. The project? Construction of the first Guinness brewery in the U.S..

But as Peggy will tell you, what may seem like a chance encounter is actually the result of years of deepening her engagement within the WBENC network both regionally and nationally, cultivating relationships, and always coming to every encounter 100 percent prepared.
