The Value Behind Being a Good Corporate Neighbor: How M. Davis & Sons Continues to Give Back

Communities are often heavily impacted in many ways, whether by current trends, culture, civic leaders, or even corporations. Lending a helping hand to help others within the community can make such a difference and positively impact dozens of families, students, adults, and children living in these different communities. At M. Davis & Sons, we believe in giving back to the communities.

We’re Giving Back & Making a Difference

In our quest to give back, we’ve participated in coat and food drives and have worked on the fabrication of adaptive bicycles for disabled children. It’s our goal to be the best corporate neighbor we can be to the communities throughout many states. In addition to the food drives and bicycles for the disabled, our company is regularly involved in the local vocational-technical high schools in New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania. We’ve worked closely with students to help them learn valuable skills they can use to their advantage when seeking employment.

Any reputable business that cares about the local community knows that being a good neighbor can leave a lasting impact on those around them. At M Davis & Sons, we’ve contributed to our neighbors for the past several decades and will continue to do so for many more. We’re a team of skilled professionals who care for and support foundations, non-profits, and vo-tech schools that aim to teach children the trade. We know that by donating our time, effort, and energy to improving our community, we can encourage goodwill among neighbors. From environmental foundations to dozens of student organizations, our reach has gone far and wide, enabling us to impact the lives of those around us in many ways.

We Provide Students with Encouragement & Prove Anything Is Possible

We recently participated in a Girls in STEM event for the Cecil County Public Schools in Maryland. The idea was to enlighten girls interested in STEM-related activities that can lead to jobs in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. During the event, middle school students had the opportunity to meet one of our best plumbers, Selena, who completed a live demonstration of soldering a copper pipe and describing how plumbing and piping works throughout a building. In addition to the live demonstration, she shared with the students her experience of attending and graduating from a vo-tech high school that helped her gain the skills needed to land a job as a co-op plumber with M. Davis & Sons. She then worked at M. Davis while she completed her apprenticeship program and graduated with the Journeyman Papers for her trade. She turned the job into her full-time career. Her inspirational story has helped motivate young students, showing them that alternatives to college, such as trade schools, can lead to incredible opportunities.

We know that students are our future, so we look forward to sharing our knowledge and experiences with these children and teenagers. We want them to know they can count on M. Davis & Sons.

Because engineering is a pillar service at our company, we regularly support students taking engineering courses. We’ve also taken steps to support the University of Delaware in Mechanical Engineering and have sponsored the redesign of their Mechanical Engineering Design Studio. Additionally, M. Davis & Sons sponsors a scholarship for engineering students each year at UDE.

The UDE Design Studio is a 5,500-square-foot maker space for design and fabrication available to students 24/7. We’re excited to be involved in the studio’s construction and look forward to seeing students have access to an updated, highly efficient space to work in as often as they’d like. If you’d like to learn more about the Design Studio at the University of Delaware’s Mechanical Engineering area, check them out here.

We’re Here for Our Community Every Step of the Way

While our contributions to students are incredibly important, M. Davis & Sons also supports the U.S. Armed Forces in many ways, from hosting holiday donations to helping veterans land a rewarding career in the construction industry. Veterans can work for six months in a M. Davis Pre-Apprenticeship program which allows them to learn different trades in that span of time from working alongside industry craft professionals.

We’re excited to continue working with hundreds of people throughout the region each year as we focus on giving back and supporting our neighbors.
