Electrical Estimator
The Electrical Estimator prepares accurate estimates for industrial electrical projects by analyzing requirements, assessing costs, and developing competitive bids. This role ensures projects are profitable, efficient, and meet quality and safety standards. Responsibilities include managing all phases of project estimating and learning the company’s safety and quality protocols. The electrical estimator will work in person at the M. Davis office in Kennett Square, PA. Schedule: M-F, Full-Time, on-site,
Position Responsibilities
Team Communication & Development
- Develop a team approach to the department activities, as well as inter-department projects and activities.
- Coach and mentor direct reports and others in the group, identify strengths and weaknesses of each direct report, and develop growth plans.
Sales
- Drive departments to follow up on bids, projects, and opportunities.
- Improve communication between departments on bidding strategies and opportunities.
- Professional customer communication and follow-up related to project information.
Continuous Improvement
- Work with the Operations Manager to understand best practices and key learnings and periodically review content to keep documentation relevant.
- Continuously identify new technologies that will improve safety, quality, and/or performance of your department (i.e. Estimation) and in the field (i.e. Trades).
- Expand the department’s capabilities and encourage innovative solutions to improve accuracy and efficiency in bidding or project execution (i.e. distribution of work, prefabrication strategies, etc.).
Managing/Monitoring/Reporting
- Monitor and communicate estimation capacity.
- Assist with coordinating interdepartmental estimates.
- Participate in quote review meetings.
- Participate in project postmortem meetings and estimation feedback loop.
- Have recurring meetings with estimation and project teams to review active opportunities.
Execution
- Analyze blueprints, drawings, and technical documents to determine material quantities, labor hours, and equipment needed for various construction projects.
- Conduct thorough research to gather data on material costs, subcontractor pricing, and market trends to ensure accurate cost estimates.
- Utilize estimating software and spreadsheets to prepare detailed cost estimates, including material take-offs, labor costs, equipment expenses, and subcontractor bids.
- Present cost estimates to management and clients, articulating assumptions, methodologies, and potential risks involved.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project meetings as required, providing valuable insights and recommendations.
- Collaborate with the project team to obtain competitive pricing for materials and subcontractor services, optimizing project budgets and timelines.
- Maintain a database of approved vendors, cost information, supplier pricing, and historical data to support accurate estimating and inform future projects.
Safety & Quality Control
- Operate with a strong set of both business and moral ethics.
- Foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Competencies
- Good interpersonal skills to work in a team environment
- Demonstrate proficiency in estimating software; experience with Trimble Accubid is a plus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Microsoft Project is a plus.
- Demonstrate experience and understanding of electrical layout, conduit installation, cable trays, duct banks, and wire terminations.
- An understanding of value engineering
- Knowledge and understanding of the Electrical Code (NEC)
- Experience in industrial and hazardous location classification is a plus
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of instrumentation and control panels is a plus
Education
- 2-year degree or equivalent work experience
- Successful completion of an electrical apprenticeship is desirable
