Workforce Development / Career Pathways

Building Careers at M. Davis

At M. Davis & Sons, workforce development is about more than training. Through internships, co-ops, apprenticeships, and on-the-job training, M. Davis invests in students and early career professionals with the goal of helping them build real skills and have lasting careers. Many employees throughout the company started their careers at M. Davis in different ways, but all found opportunities to learn, grow, and build meaningful careers. The stories below highlight just a few of the many paths that can lead to a full-time role.

Thomas Boston

Thomas joined M. Davis as an Engineering Intern during the winter break of his sophomore year at the University of Delaware. Over multiple winter and summer internships, he worked in both the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering departments, gaining experience with CAD, PLC and HMI Programming, industrial control systems, and SCADA applications. After graduating in May 2026, Thomas accepted a full-time position as an Electrical Project Engineer working at the power distribution equipment facility. https://www.mdavisinc.com/electrical-power-distribution/#

Dana Gomes

Dana joined M. Davis through the University of Delaware’s Lerner Co-Op Program in the summer of 2025. The year-long internship experience gave Dana the opportunity to become more involved with the marketing team while contributing to long-term initiatives and company events. Unlike a traditional internship, the extended experience allowed her to support projects that continued throughout the year. After graduating in May 2026, Dana transitioned into a full-time role as a Marketing and Digital Media Specialist.

Maria Dye

Although she studied electrical trades at Hodgson Vo-Tech, Maria began her career in early childhood education before returning to the skilled trades and joining M. Davis as an electrician. At the power distribution manufacturing facility, she builds industrial control panels while developing the skills needed to earn her Journeyman certificate through the State of Delaware Electrical Apprenticeship Program. As her career has grown, Maria has become a mentor to others. She serves as an electrical instructor for the M. Davis Construction Trades Summer Camp, where she combines her background in education with her trade experience to help teach and mentor local high school students.

Luis Rangel

Luis’ journey with M. Davis began when he attended the M. Davis Construction Trades Summer Camp while still in high school. He was motivated by the camp experience, and he developed a knack for welding. He was able to earn a spot in the Pipe Fabrication Shop as a Co-Op in his senior year, and after graduation, he was brought on full-time. Luis continues to develop his welding skills through work and the M. Davis In-house Weld Training Program. In a full-circle way, Luis is now an instructor for the welding day during the M. Davis Construction Trades Summer Camp.

Building Careers That Last

No two career paths look exactly alike. Some employees begin as interns, others through co-ops, apprenticeships, or entry-level positions. Although each journey looks different, they all demonstrate how hands-on experience and the right support can lead to a long-term career at M. Davis. As M. Davis continues to grow, investing in people at every stage of their careers remains an important part of how we develop talent, strengthen our teams, and build the future of our workforce.
